Essentials of descriptive cancer epidemiology
A highly experienced faculty will present a stimulating and intensive 4 day course on the principles, methods and application of descriptive methods in population-based cancer epidemiology. The course will cover central concepts as well as some recent methodological developments and results and will include lectures and group discussions. The faculty will demonstrate how the methods can be applied using available software but the course will not include hands-on computing sessions.

Who should attend
Epidemiologists, statisticians, physicians and oncologists, public health specialists and others with a direct interest in descriptive cancer epidemiology, and particularly those working in a cancer registry. Applicants are expected to have a basic understanding of statistics and epidemiology. The course will include discussion of some advanced statistical methods but the faculty will emphasise the principles and application rather than the mathematical details.
Course fee
The course fee is SEK9000:- plus value added tax (Swedish mervärdesskatt) where applicable (see below) and includes printed course materials, lunch, and tea/coffee during the morning and afternoon breaks.
Participants based in low, lower-middle and upper-middle income countries (based on the invoice address) are entitled to a 50% discount on the course fee. A list of eligible countries can be found here. Registered students (undergraduate or postgraduate) are also entitled to a 50% discount on the course fee provided supporting documentation is provided. Upon confirmation of registration, all participants will receive details of how to remit payment. We cannot send invoices to individual, so you must provide the name and address of a company, university, or organisation to whom we will address the invoice.
Value added tax (Swedish mervärdesskatt), which is 25% of the course fee, will be added to the invoice amount for participants from organisations within the European Union, but is not applicable for organisations outside the European Union.
Course certificate and assessment
Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance. There is no formal examination. The course is not an official university course and successful completion of the course does not automatically entitle academic credits although registered students may be able to apply to their university for formal credit.
Travel and accomodation
The course organisers cannot organise travel or provide accommodation for participants. A list of accommodation in the vicinity of the course venue can be found here. Participants from outside Sweden are responsible for obtaining any neccesary visas or other permits required to enter Sweden.
Course language
The course language will be English. All instruction and course materials will be in English.
